Izzel Sanchez

MMM, Gunnery Sergeant, USMC

Gunnery Sergeant Izzel Sanchez was born in Acapulco, Mexico, and graduated from West Linn High School in West Linn, Oregon in 2000. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended boot camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif.

Sanchez, attended Marine Combat Training in Camp Pendleton, Calif., in 2001 and was then assigned to the Defense Information School at Ft. George G. Meade, Md., where he completed the Video Production Documentation course in 2001.

After graduation, Sanchez was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan.

In 2002, Sanchez was assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif., where he worked as the video chief.

In 2005, Sanchez was assigned to the Marine Forces Pacific at Camp Smith, Hawaii. In 2006, Sanchez deployed to Iraq with the 1st Marine Division. Following his deployment, Sanchez attended the Marksmanship Coaches Course and taught marksmanship.

In 2008, Sanchez was selected for Drill Instructor duty in Parris Island, S.C. After a three-year tour at Parris Island, Sanchez was selected for the Military Motion Media course at Syracuse University.

Gunnery Sergeant Sanchez’s awards include the Combat Action Ribbon, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Drill Instructor Ribbon.

Following graduation, Sanchez will report to the Marine Corps Information Operations Center in Quantico, Va.
