Hendrick Simoes

MMM, Chief Petty Officer, USN

Chief Petty Officer Hendrick Simoes is a native of Alamo, Calif., and graduated from Monte Vista High School. In 1999, Simoes enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

After graduating basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL, Simoes attended Interior Communication training in Great Lakes.

Following his graduation, Simoes received orders to report aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in Yokosuka, Japan. During his tour, Simoes oversaw more than 34,000 aircraft launches and recoveries, including combat missions during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Following his tour on the USS Kitty Hawk, Simoes cross-trained as a Mass Communications Specialist. In December 2004, he attended the Defense Information School (DINFOS) in Fort Meade, Md and completed the Mass Communication Specialist Course.

In 2005, Simoes was assigned as the news director at the Air Force News Agency in Misawa, Japan, where he oversaw the production of 1,500 news products.

In January 2008, Simoes returned to Fort Meade, Md., to become an instructor. While stationed at DINFOS, Simoes taught the Advanced Broadcast Course before receiving orders to report to the Motion Media Program at Syracuse University.

Simoes awards and decorations include, the Joint Service Commendation medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and two Joint Service Achievement Medals.

Following graduation, Simoes will report to Bahrain to start up a new Stars and Stripes Detachment.
