Ben Hutto

Sergeant Ben Hutto is a native of Williston, S.C. and graduated from Barnwell High School in 1992. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of South Carolina at Aiken. Hutto enlisted in the active-duty Army August 2005 and reported to basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. He graduated from basic training Oct. 15 and reported to Advanced Individual Training at Fort George G. Meade, Md. He graduated from AIT and joined the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Benning, Ga., Feb. 23, 2006.

While serving in the 3rd HBCT, Hutto deployed with the unit twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a public affairs specialist for the 3rd HBCT, Hutto produced hundreds of press releases, feature stories, photographs and helped facilitate local and national media organizations with covering his brigade. Hutto served with the “Sledgehammer Brigade” for five years before being accepted into the S.I. Newhouse Military Visual Information Program at Syracuse University.

Hutto’s decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Combat Action Badge.

Following graduation from the Military Photojournalism program, Hutto will report to DINFOS to be an instructor.
